Technology Upgradation and Skill Development Company (Tusdec) is establishing Skill Development Centers (SDCs) in the fields of construction, furniture-making and hospitality and tourism in the areas affected by the earthquake on 8th October, 2005.
According to a spokesman of Tusdec, the groundbreaking ceremony of the first two SDCs is being held in Batagram (NWFP) on 14th August. The aim of SDCs is to restore economic activity, facilitate rehabilitation and ensure sustainable development in the affected areas. The work on SDCs is being done under the supervision of Project Director of Tusdec, Colonel Anwar Ali Pervaiz.
According to him, the SDCs in Batagram will provide courses of duration of 3 months to develop skills in the fields of construction and hospitality and tourism. The SDCs will provide technical skills to a total of 1100 students each year, out of which 520 will be trained in construction skills while the skills of 620 students will be developed in the field of hospitality and tourism. The total estimated project cost is around Rs 50 million.
