Prime Minister should resign on PSM sell-off issue: MNA

12 Aug, 2006

The leader of the forward bloc in the ruling PML, Riaz Pirzada, has said that Prime Minster Shaukat Aziz should tender his resignation in the wake of the detailed judgement in Steel Mill privatisation case as it would enhance his political image.
In an interview with a private TV channel, he said that the judgement "has caused a big dent" in the credibility of the government, and this development comes as a big challenge as far as transparency of privatisation of key institutions of the government is concerned. "We have seen that the two former Prime Ministers, who faced corruption charges, are now sitting abroad and I think this new allegation against the government is not a good omen."
He said that this has been declared by the Supreme Court, and it is the duty of the government to rectify which has been objected by the apex court. If a railway minister can resign in case of train accident, in this case, too, the Prime Minister should resign. "It would enhance the political image of the Prime Minster," he added.
