Punjab Literacy and non-Formal Basic Education Minister, Hussain Jahania Gardezi has said that poverty reduction and human development were priority areas of the government under the 'Education For All' (EFA) programme.
Presiding over a department meeting here, he said education sector reforms were aimed at the development of education sector as a whole, with special focus on literacy promotion. According to a press release issued here on Friday, he said despite economic constraints, the government was spending huge amounts on literacy, reflecting its clear commitment to EFA programme.
"In order to boost the literacy rate, all stake-holders will have to work with a missionary spirit," observed the minister, and lauded the positive role played in literacy promotion by the private sector. He said that a strategy was, however, being evolved to monitor the performance of private schools.
