Almost all flights delayed as the security has been beefed up at Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Rahimyar Khan airports in the Southern Punjab after British security agencies on Thursday foiled a terror plot for blowing the US-bound airliners.
Islamabad-Lahore-Multan morning flight arrived four hours behind schedule similarly evening flight was also late on Friday and Saturday. "We are in a state of high alert since Thursday afternoon and following all the standard operating procedures (SOPs) that ASF used to observe during high alert situations," an ASF official told on Saturday.
To a question, he said that there was no immediate possibility of easing out the security at airports. The decision in this regard will be taken by Ministry of Defence at appropriate time.
Following the measures taken by UK and USA airport authorities, Airport Security Force (ASF) has directed the passengers not to bring handbags at the airport.
The passengers can carry only transparent handbags but no liquid and metallic objects except medicines and keys will be allowed on board in hand baggage.
The government has directed all the security agencies to remain vigilant and help the security force working at airports. The new security measures have disturbed the flight schedule and some of the flights could not depart on time.
