Indian troops fire across LoC: two hurt

16 Aug, 2006

Indian troops on Tuesday fired across LoC for the first time in a year and a half, injuring two Pakistani boys, a Pakistani military spokesman said. "It was unprovoked firing and we are going to protest with the Indian authorities and the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan, "Major General Shaukat Sultan told AFP.
Sultan said the boys were more than 150 meters (164 yards) inside the Pakistani side of the LoC when they were hit by gunfire from the Indian army. The boys were taken to hospital. Major Farooq Nasir, an army spokesman in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistani Kashmir, said that the two were teenagers and were collecting sand from a local stream close to the LoC near Bandi Abbaspur village.
"There was no incident like this," said a spokesman for the Indian army, who requested to remain unnamed. "There has been no violation of cease-fire from our side," he said.
