Despite the City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal's approval, the concerned authorities of the city government have been deliberately delaying a Rs 0.5 million project for making 10 documentary films on road safety education for general public, sources in the city government told Business Recorder on Wednesday.
"The Transport and Communication Department (TCD) has evolved the project and aimed to impart road safety education to general public, children and drivers through regular transmission in different hours from various local TV channels," he said.
About the project, he said it consisted of 10 different documentary films encompassing various areas where generally public fell victims to serious road accidents, and would have to be shown 24 hours a day on local TV channels.
The project has also various messages on road safety codes for schoolchildren, which would certainly help save them from accidents, he added.
He said that City Nazim had appreciated the well-planned project and had approved it without any delay, but unfortunately he had sent the case to the Media Management Department for further verification and comments. Since then the implementation of the project was at stake, he added.
"The project is still lying as a redundant piece of paper at the Media Management Department of the city government, and I am sure that it will never be sent back for implementation," he regretted.
According to rules, he said, the project after being approved by the City Nazim, should have been sent to Finance Department for financing it, but for unknown reasons the project was dispatched to the department, which was entirely unconcerned to the project by all aspects.
He said that Transport and Communication Department (TCD) of the city government would raise the case once again and had dug their heels in for implementing the project in the greater interest of the citizens and the city, despite the hurdles.
