NWFP to extend virtual teaching project to remote areas

NWFP Minister for Science & Information Technology Hussain Ahmad Kanju has directed the authorities concerned of his department to take steps for extension of Virtual Teaching Pilot Project to the far-flung areas of the entire province and prepare CDs of science subjects of Matric level both in Urdu and English for the students of all those government schools where science teachers are not available.
He issued these directives while chairing a review meeting of his department on Thursday morning. Secretary IT Muhammad Umar Afridi, Deputy Secretary Muhammad Kamal and Director IT Sarwar Gondal also attended the meeting.
The minister on this occasion was informed that IT department was working on 18 IT projects at a cost of Rs 130 million, out of which six projects were in the completion stage. Similarly a piece of land for establishment of IT park in Peshawar has been identified while feasibility study for computerisation of the land, revenue & property tax and driving license was in the final stage. He was further informed that the CDs of the Matric Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects were ready in Urdu while services of Biology expert were being hired for preparation of bio CD.
Speaking on the occasion, the IT minister said that Virtual Teaching Project was very useful and valuable project which on implementation would not only discourage the tuition culture but also prove helpful in introducing uniform system of education in the province. He added that Virtual Teaching Project in the second stage would also be extended at the college level.
Expressing his anger over unnecessary delay in the recruitment process, Kanju directed the high ups of the department to discourage this practice in future and complete the said process within a month after advertisement. He further directed that the candidates to be called for interview not only be individually informed on phone and published their names on internet but also advertise the dates of interview in the print media in advance. The minister also directed for creation of special vacancy of hardware checking expert to ensure quality hardware installation in the projects.
