Prime Minister assures Centre's help to cope with rains in Karachi

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Friday directed the Sindh government to take immediate measures to cope with the situation following heavy rains in Karachi and assured full support from the federal government in this need of hour.
The Prime Minister talked to Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim and Nazim Karachi Mustafa Kamal on telephone and discussed with them the disruption of life after rains in Karachi.
He directed the Sindh government and the Karachi administration to take immediate steps to drain out rainwater and restore electricity in the city. The Prime Minister also asked them to submit to him a detailed report about the losses due to rains.
He also asked the Sindh government to prepare short- and long-term strategies and plans to handle similar situation in case of heavy rains in future, so that the city, being the economic hub of the country, should not face such a situation in future. Chief Minister Dr Arbab Rahim and Nazim Karachi Mustafa Kamal informed the Prime Minister about the measures taken by them to help the people. They told him that all the officials of the concerned relief departments remained busy in the relief operation day and night.
