The steering committee on export of sporting and hunting arms, chaired by the Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Jehangir Khan Tareen on Friday discussed up-gradation of the industry in Pakistan.
The meeting was informed that the efforts are being made to exploit the export potential of 600,000 sporting and hunting arms, which could fetch 100 million dollars foreign exchange. Three working group and one steering committee meetings had been held previously on formulating strategy for developing sporting and hunting arms industry.
The minister was given presentation on the proposed strategy to develop sporting and hunting arms. The steering committee proposed to set up common facility and skill development centres in Darra Adam Khel to facilitate and train the local arms manufacturers.
It was also proposed that a sector development company may also be formed for the purpose. The minister proposed that Fata Secretariat would be kept involved in the exercise so that the issues confronting the development of arms industry are settled locally.
"There is a great potential of export for sporting and hunting arms from Pakistan. Therefore, the government is giving priority to the development of these arms in Fata and all-out efforts are being made to help develop local industry in the area", says an official release.
