Clifton residents brave rainwater stagnation

19 Aug, 2006

Residents of Al-Habib Apartments and Mehran Heights apartment behind the petrol pump on main Clifton Road just before the Clifton underpass have been sending urgent calls to the concerned authorities and also newspapers and news agencies for drawing attention to their precarious condition.
Some four hundred families were living in these apartments which are waterlogged by rainwater and on the ground floor the motor vehicles are in half foot of water.
The electric supply to these apartments was suspended and all requests for restoration of power supply have been turned down on the pretext that till the water is cleared from the ground floors, electricity cannot be restored.
There is no potable water in these apartments since Thursday because water cannot be pumped due to outage of power.
One housewife told UPP that already they have run out of food items and milk for children and their telephones to the various relief centers only reply one answer that your apartment building area is not in our jurisdiction.
The residents feel that such inefficiency from the relief agencies and the CDGK must be taken seriously by the Governor of Sindh and the President of Pakistan.
The apartments are located near the Clifton underpass which is now being called by people in the area as 'Blunder-pass'.
