'E-10 petrol to be beneficial for sugar industry'

Director General Hydro Carbon Development Institute of Pakistan Hilal A Raza on Friday said that the profitability of sugar industry would be increased by E-10 Petrol which ultimately give benefit to cane growers also.
Talking to PTV, he said molasses which is a by product in sugar industry was exported in the past but now it would be available to produce ethanol from it which could be utilised after mixing petrol in it so that our pool is increased. He said, Ethanol is not a new thing and the basic purpose to introduce it was to ensure energy security so that our self-reliance increases.
It has been initiated on a limited scale but it is a first step and the journey would go on, he added. He said, it is a revolutionary step in the energy economy of Pakistan adding that when a new thing is started there are always apprehensions of people, which are removed, with the passage of time.
Effort was to take market based initiative he said, and there is not such thing, which is forced on anyone so PSO took the initiative. "We hope that the other companies would also follow us", he added.
He said, as the competition increases the prices would be reduced, as the most important thing for people is price. He hoped that the people would accept it, as acceptability of any product by people is most important thing. "We want to know the reaction of people also", he added.
He said, if this experiment is successful in the country and there is improvement in the technology of cars the ratio of ethanol could be increased and in short period E-10 petrol would be available in market.
