'Free press, judiciary vital for society'

Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Hussain Chaudhry has said that free press and independent judiciary are vital for the establishment of a healthy society. While talking to a delegation of columnists, Chief Justice said that judiciary will continue to work for the protection of constitution and fundamental rights of people of Pakistan.
He said judiciary was working to dispense justice in accordance with the law. He added that judges have to work hard to dispense justice and in order to clear backlog of cases dedicated efforts were made during the last year. He said that people of Pakistan were free to approach the courts and judges for the redressal of their grievances.
Moreover, the chief justice in his short visit to Lahore registry disposed of some administrative matters and also met president Supreme Court Bar Association, Malik Muhammad Qayyum.
