Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari said on Monday that information technology sector export is about 600 million dollars annually. Speaking in a PTV programme, the minister said IT export has also generated jobs opportunities in the country.
"We are also trying to continue current growth in IT sector as we are globally more competitive," Awais Leghari said adding, figure of 600 million dollars in IT sector is very encouraging for the government.
The minister said during last two years about 10,0000 to 20,0000 jobs were generated by the IT sector. He added that 200,000 to 250,000 jobs had been created in telecommunication sector.
He said number of telephones has increased from 2.8 million to 42.5 million during last six years. At present one-third population of the country enjoys telephone facility, he added. To a question, he said President Pervez Musharraf has fully focussed on the development of Information Technology sector. He said human resources and connectivity are imperative for the development of IT sector.
