Criminal prosecution service to be launched in September

Provincial Minister for Law, Local Government and Public Prosecution, Muhammad Basharat Raja has said that an independent criminal prosecution service would be launched formally next month for which process of recruitment has been started.
He said this while talking to media-men at his office, here on Wednesday. The minister said that only eligible and competent persons would be appointed to ensure a high standard of prosecution in criminal cases. He said that an independent panel of experts including members of Punjab Public Service Commission will conduct tests and interviews of the candidates.
Basharat Raja said that all recruitment's will be made on contact basis; therefore, these posts have not been referred to Punjab Public Service Commission. However, strict criteria have been evolved for this purpose. He said that ability and competence of a public prosecutor could easily be judged by his performance in the court.
Raja Basharat said that purpose of setting up an independent public prosecution department is to improve quality of prosecution in the courts. Therefore, he said, there was no room for incompetent and ineligible persons in the department.
