National Assembly select committee on Hudood laws formed

Speaker National Assembly Chaudhry Amir Hussain on Wednesday formed a 24-member 'House' select committee on Hudood laws. The committee came into being after all the parliamentary committees forwarded names of lawmakers, following the strong agitation by the opposition, particularly by the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal on the amendments to the Hadood laws, for which a bill was tabled early this week.
Religious Affairs Minister Ijazul Haq is chairman of the committee, which will hold its first meeting on August 24 in the Speaker's chamber in the afternoon.
The committee comprises Dr Sher Afghan Niazi, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Zahid Ahmed, Minster for Investment & Privatisation, Sumaira Malik, Minister for Women Development, Shahid Akram Bhinder, Minister of State for Law, Justice & Human Rights, Dr Aamer Liaquat Hussain, Minister of State for Religious Affairs, Raza Hayat Hiraj, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis, MNAs Begum Mehnaz Rafi, Bushra Reman, Kashmala Tariq, Madam Khursheed Afghan, Sheikh Waqas Akram, Abdul Qadir Jamaluddin Al-Gillani, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Sherry Rehman, Syed Nayyar Hussain Bokhari, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, Liaqat Baloch, Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq Haqqani, Sahibzada Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair, Sahibzada Haji Muhammad Afzal Karim, Muhammad Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, Wasi Zafar, Minster for Law, Justice & Human Rights.
Moreover, on a point of order MMA Deputy Secretary General Hafiz Hussain told the National Assembly on Wednesday that PML President Shujaat Hussain assured them that Leader of the House in the Senate Wasim Sajjad and State Minister for Law Shahid Anwar Bhinder will hold separate meetings with the MMA on the issue.
