Senate Chairman Muhammadmian Soomro on Thursday stressed upon Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) to provide research guidelines for practical solutions of issues regarding housing quality, health issues, transportation, agriculture mechanisation, water management, medical insurance, sewerage and drainage system and forecasting in future.
While visiting PIDE, he expressed these views and emphasised the need for collaboration on research agenda between Senate and the PIDE. Chairman said that there was an urgent need for the reliable data for government and PIDE can provide such information on their research basis. He said that "PIDE's Ph.D programme will be worked out and as chairman Senate he would provide full support to PIDE in this regard".
Earlier, Muhammadmian Soomro was given a presentation about the brief history of the PIDE. The presentation also provided an overview of ongoing research in PIDE, its research on policy issues, Pakistan Society of Development Economists as social science body, new research agenda, South Asian Network of Economic Research Institute (SANEI) located at PIDE and PIDE structure as a research organisation.
Dr Nadeemul Haq, Director, PIDE in his concluding remarks appreciated the good list of research topics given by the Chairman Senate. He said that visit of Muhammadmian Soomro was extremely useful and in future, PIDE will collaborate with Senate on research agenda.
