Attock to have 250 literacy centers

Like other parts of the province, the Punjab government will also establish 250 literacy centers in ten union councils of Attock district and 100 non-formal educational centers under Education Sector Reforms Programme of the government.
The provincial government has also released an amount of Rs three million in the first phase, said Executive District Officer Literacy Attock Waris Khan while talking to local newsmen on Thursday.
He said the literacy centers would be set up at union councils Mallahmansoor, Kot Sundki, Suragsalar, Nara, Tarab, Chaki, Mairasharif, Kot Fateh Khan, Gali Jagir and Gulial of tehsil Fatehjang.
He said that a survey of the respective areas was underway and 200 teachers had been deployed to collect data of illiterate persons in the union councils where the literacy centers would be established.
He said that illiterates with age group of 15 years onward would be given admission in these centers while persons ranging age 14 years would be imparted education in non-formal education centers.
Waris Khan further said that three years ESR programme was being launched in 31 districts out of 35 districts of Punjab. However, districts of DG Khan, Mandi Bahauddin, Khanewal and Khushab had been included in the campaign. He said that 10,850 literacy and non formal education centers would be established in 31 districts of the province.
