SZABIST introduces online courses

In order to provide quality and affordable education nation-wide and world-wide, SZABIST launches the online university to offer its courses and degrees programmes on the Internet.
This was stated by Vice President and Project Director Dr Javaid R. Leghari at a press conference held at the SZABIST Clifton Campus on Thursday.
Regarding courses introduction in first phase of the online university, he said currently, nine courses in two major subjects, including computer sciences and management sciences were being offered for the fall 2006 semester.
"We plan to offer over 300 courses online over the next four years which will include courses in computer, management, social sciences, economics, and law," he added. Dr Javaid said that SZABIST online university was aimed to provide easy access to students and professional were living in remote villages in different parts of the country.
Dispelling the impression, he said the worth of the online university degree would have the same recognition and status as the SZABIST off-line one. He said the final exam of the courses or degree would be held at any of the campuses of SZABIST or any other notified institution in that part of the country.
He said if in those parts of the country SZABIST campus was not yet set up, so it would request to any other reputed college, institution, or university to hold the final exam of the courses or degree where students would physically take their exams. However, he said other primary, mid-term and other regular test would be conducted online.
He said the quality of curriculum, instruction, and assessment, including assignment, tests, exams was similar to that offered at any of the SZABIST's off-line campuses.
