US arabica coffee futures shed just under 1 percent Friday, depressed by light speculative selling amid benign crop weather in Brazil coupled with flagging robusta prices in London, traders said.
The New York Board of Trade's benchmark arabica coffee contract for December delivery fell 0.90 cent to settle at $1.1025 a lb after trading from $1.0920 to $1.1150.
Despite the light roaster buying, back month arabicas slumped 0.95 cent to 1.10 cents on the day. The front-month September contract, which is in delivery notice period, slipped 0.85 cent to end at $1.0620 a lb. Estimated coffee futures trading volume reached a low 8,190 lots on the NYBOT, down from the 10,527 contracts officially tallied the previous session.
