Accumulated rainwater cleaning continues in Karachi

27 Aug, 2006

The cleaning of different roads and streets in the city from accumulated rainwater has continued through the day in Karachi city, but the cloudy weather affected the campaign. However, most residents of Karachi thanked Allah for His mercy in sparing the city so far from any further rain.
In Karachi at almost all the mosques where collective prayers are held, the faithful prayed with the Imam and Khatibs for an end to rain in Pakistan.
Residents from different localities were also telephoning the special office counters established by the CDGK and the Cantonment Boards. The officers and employees of the cantonments in the city are also looking after the relief operations on a 24 hour basis.
The CDGK teams working in the field were seen draining out water from different parts of Clifton road till early in the morning and again in the afternoon. Cleaning teams of the Cantonment Board are also working on the same strategy. The choked drains are cleaned along with the use of overlapping lines draining out the standing rain water from different plots.
The number of plots that have still rain water standing, which into several hundred thousand on the second day of the rainy spell here, have now been reduced to the barest minimum of a few hundred. However, residents say that the important thing is to carry out anti-mosquito and anti-fly campaigns in the city without delay.
