Pakistan to host Saarc technical meeting

Pakistan is hosting the second meeting of the Saarc technical committee on science, technology and meteorology, from August 28 to 29 in Islamabad. The delegation - from member countries - Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka have started reaching here.
Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Chaudhry Nouraiz Shakoor will inaugurate the meeting. Diplomats from Saarc countries, international donor agencies and Saarc observer countries will also attend.
The committee submits its implementation report to Saarc ministerial committee on science and technology on annual basis for consideration by the heads of states of member countries. Presently the Saarc chairmanship is with Bangladesh and Pakistan is the chairman of the committee.
The delegates will discuss the progress on the calendar of activities adopted at the recommendations made in the first meeting in Islamabad on May 10 and 11 in 2004. The committee will consider programme and calendar of activities for 2007-06. These include different areas of co-operation among member countries in the field of science and technology and meteorology.
On the second day of the meeting, the committee will prepare report for its adoption. The meeting is being organised by the Ministry of Science in collaboration with Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
