Punjab government amends Nikahnama

The Punjab government has amended Nikahnama and makes a condition that both groom and bride would mention details of their previous marriage and children in the marriage papers in future.
According to a notification issued by the Home department, Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961 the word "West Pakistan" will be substituted by the word "The Punjab."
In said rules the form 2 of Nikahnama column (5) new column (5A) will be inserted. Under this new column if bride is widow or divorcee she must be mentioned the numbers and names of her children from previous husband.
Similarly in column (21), a new column (21B) will be added, under which new column bridegroom would have to declare whether he is widow man or divorcee. In this situation bridegroom must be mentioned the exact numbers and names of
his children borne by her existing or deceased wife or wives, said the notification.
A senior officer of the Punjab Assembly said that home department has amended Nikahnama in the light of a resolution passed by the house unanimously in November last year. Lady MPA Misbah Kokab presented the resolution, he added.
