27 Aug, 2006

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has postponed the hearing on the bail application filed by Raja Zaraat, the main suspect of the multi-million GST scam. Sources told Business Recorder on Friday that the hearing has been postponed up to September 4, 2006.
The special judge, customs and excise, Karachi has already rejected Zaraat's bail application. The application, in all the four FIRs lodged by the Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation, Customs and Excise had been rejected by the customs judge.
The directorate sought more time for completing investigation against the accused and pursuing the courts to turn down his bail application, sources said.
The board has also rejected his application for an out-of-court settlement under the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism, as the committee could not be constituted in case where the criminal proceedings were underway, sources added.
