Malaysia's state infrastructure firm plans to spend 10 billion ringgit ($2.7 billion) to expand rail and bus networks in Kuala Lumpur and its surrounding areas, the government said on Tuesday.
The move is aimed at improving the public transport system and easing worsening traffic congestion in the Malaysian capital, Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak said after a meeting with transport officials.
He said state firm Syarikat Prasana Negara Bhd proposed to spend 10 billion ringgit over the next four years to extend and build a new rail network, purchase trains and buses, improve ticketing system and build transport terminals.
He did not say how Prasana would raise the money.
