The New York Times Co on Monday said it has bought film and television database and research service Baseline StudioSystems from Hollywood Media Corp for $35 million in cash.
Baseline supplies entertainment information to studio and television production companies by subscription. It also has a syndication and licensing business that provides non-professional entertainment information to consumer-oriented Web sites, the companies said in a statement. The Times bought Baseline to diversify its online revenue base, Chief Executive Janet Robinson said in a statement. "Every major studio is a client," said Times spokeswoman Catherine Mathis.
