KCCI for fixing child labour age at 14 years

The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has urged the government to fix child labour age at 14 years by amending the labour laws. In a communication to the government, the KCCI noted that in USA the child labour age is 14 years and keeping it in view the age of child labour in Pakistan also be fixed at 14 years.
The chamber also suggested that minimum wages should be on hourly basis. It also proposed that export-processing units (EPU) statues be given to value-added textile made-ups industries such as garments, bed-linen and towels. The chamber demanded that exporting industries such as garments, towel and bed-linen manufacturers be exempted from social security and EOBI obligations.
