Ministry, NCHD to collaborate in family planning

A meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Chaudhry Shahbaz Hussain, Federal Minister for Population Welfare, to seek possible opportunities of co-operation and financial collaboration between the ministry and the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) here on Friday. NCHD Chairman Dr Naseem Ashraf was also present in the meeting.
Chaudhry Shahbaz expressed his concern over the rapid growth of population rate, especially in the rural areas, and said that there was dire need to launch awareness and mobilisation campaign at grassroots level. The minister said to achieve targets it would be better for NCHD to work jointly with the population ministry.
The field workers of NCHD already engaged in health sector at grassroots level can perform well by getting further technical training in mother and child care. The senior officials of the ministry also discussed other possibilities to launch joint efforts in this sector.
Dr Naseem Ashraf welcomed the suggestions and proposals made by the senior officials of the ministry and termed it practicable and viable. He assured to extend full co-operation from his institution for the mobilisation of the masses for having small family.
Chaudhry Shahbaz expressed the hope that a joint campaign will soon be launched with the population ministry in family planning sector and in this way financial and technical resources from both sides would be utilised promptly.
Additional Secretary Hafeez-ur-Rehman, DG (Programme) Mian Muazzam Shah and other senior officials of the ministry attended the meeting.-PR
