Installation of effective communication system in fishing boats approved

The board of director of Fishermen's Co-operative Society (FCS) has approved the installation of effective communication system in fishing boats to ensure the safety of fishermen.
The meeting presided over by the Advisor to CM on Fisheries, Fakir Jaddam Mangrio on Thursday, was apprised by Vice-chairman FCS, Haji Ali Mohammad that fishing boats all over the world use communication system for navigation and maintaining link with the shore.
He said the family members of fishermen and boat owners always remain tense about their safety due to absence of communication system in fishing boats. Therefore this system should be installed on immediate basis, he added. The board agreed to the proposal and unanimously approved the scheme.
The board also constituted a vigilance committee headed by a nominated director advocate, Ahmed Zameer for submitting proposal for the restructuring of the Society. This committee will look into the irregularities and corruption in the Society and recommend legal action against corrupt officials.
The board meeting also decided to write a letter to Karachi Fish Harbour Authority (KFHA) for the construction of a separate jetty for small fishing boats. The meeting also decided to allot new moles in Ibrahim Haidri.
Taking decisions about the welfare of fishermen, the meeting decided to run mobile dispensaries in fishermen's localities at their doorstep. Besides, local dispensaries will also provide medicines to fishermen. In addition, dispensary at Fish Harbour will also be restored.
The meeting decided to purchase eight ambulances and four buses to serve during funerals from the Baitul-Mal fund. Jaddam Mangrio informed the board that he would visit all the fishermen's localities on the instructions of President Pervez Musharraf to provide basic facilities to fishermen at their doorsteps.
