The Defence Day of Pakistan was celebrated with national spirit and fervour in Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of Sialkot district on Wednesday.
The daylong programmes started with special prayers in all mosques of the district for solidarity, unity and prosperity of the country and for the early liberation of held Kashmir. Quran Khawani was held at different places for martyrs of September 1965 war.
A special function was held for hoisting Hilal-e-Istiqlal flag at Jinnah Hall under the auspices of Sialkot Tehsil Municipal Administration. The Station Commander, Sialkot, Brigadier Abdur Rehman, Tehsil Nazim Sialkot Imtiazuddin Dar District Co-ordination Officer Rizwan ullah Baig and Sialkot District Nazim jointly unfurled the Hilal-e-Istiqlal flag on top of Jinnah Hall.
The flag hoisting ceremony was attended by senior citizens, elected representatives both male and female, students and government officers. On this occasion, students of different educational institutions presented national songs and tableau.
The special children of Allama Iqbal School for Special Education also presented a highly impressive tableau, which was much appreciated by the audience. Station Commander Sialkot and Tehsil Nazim Sialkot paid rich tributes to Pak Army and the people of Sialkot for demonstrating courage during September 1965 war and consequently the Hilal-e-Istiqlal flag was awarded to Sialkot.
