A spokesman of the Senate Secretariat has dispelled the impression created by a news report carried by a section of the press saying that the Senate Secretariat had withdrawn the notification regarding summoning of the Senate Session a short while after its issuance.
Clarifying the factual position, the spokesman said that the Senate Secretariat had not issued any notification regarding summoning of the Senate Session by the president, therefore, the question of its withdrawal does not arise. The spokesman stated that the president could summon the Senate on the advice tendered to him by the prime minister at any time.
However, a requisition signed by 30 members of the Senate has been received in the Senate Secretariat, which is pending on which orders regarding summoning of the Session on an appropriate date would be made by the Senate chairman in terms of the powers conferred by Article 54 (3) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
