District Nazim Lahore, Mian Amer Mahmood has directed the authorities concerned to devise a new plan aimed at approving building maps within two weeks.
While presiding over a meeting of Governing Body of Lahore Development Authority (LDA), here on Friday, Amer also asked to provide incentives to the LDA staff so that their performance could be improved. Director General LDA, Raja Muhammad Abbas, DCO Lahore Muhammad Ijaz, Town Nazims, Tariq Sana Bajwa, Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf, Shafqat un Nisa, Khalid Javed Ghurki, managing directors TEPA and Water and Sewerage Authority (Wasa), and representatives of provincial Local Bodies Department, Finance, Housing and Planning Departments also attended the meeting.
The meeting approved different amendments in building rules to effectively monitor the strength of multi-storey buildings. The general body also approved appointment of structure engineers, two in grade-18 and eight in grade 17 so that approval of building plans and effective monitoring of construction of commercial buildings/plazas could be ensured.
Amer directed the LDA to set up different wings for approval of building maps and monitoring of construction to redress the public complaints. The enforcement wing would have full support of police to supervise the construction according to the maps and construction bye-laws. It was further resolved to impose a fine of Rs 200,000 per car on commercial building/plaza owners who would not allocate required space for car parking.
He also directed for identifying appropriate place for setting up of Girls College in Johar Town and decided to allot land to Health Department for construction of dispensary and health centre in Quaid-e-Azam Town and Tajpura. The meeting also accorded approval for the procurement of new asphalt plant for Johar Town.
