Multan Dry Port Trust (MDPT) handled imports and exports worth Rs 21.5 billion in the month of August registering an 18-percent increase in exports and 31-percent in imports than the previous month of July.
A spokesman of MDPT said that Multan Dry Port handled exports worth Rs 1642 million in 1178 containers in August 2006 against Rs 1390 million worth of exports in 1010 containers in July. Imports worth Rs 489 million were handled during August against Rs 310 million in July.
According to the spokesman, a sum of Rs 31 million was deposited in the national kitty as custom duty and tax. Some 1433 containers were utilised for handling of import and exports worth Rs 2131 million. The spokesman urged upon the importers and exporters to avail the MDPT facilities for their business operations. He said that Multan is an agriculture area having vast potential of pesticides business.
