Pakistan Cleft Lip and Palate Association (PCLAPA) on Sunday announced the schedule for surgical operations of patients from all over the country to provide free medical facilities and undertake surgery of patients suffering from disability of cleft lip and palate.
The surgeries will be performed from September 15 to 25 at the privately-run Bashir Hospital at Gujrat. The team of internationally known specialist consultant plastic and other surgeons includes British and Britain based Pakistani doctors.
The surgery cures and helps patients with a cut lip or palate, or both disabilities that badly disfigures the patient's face, but the patient also feels difficulty in leading a normal life or taking food and drinking, besides suffering psychologically, said a press release of PCLAPA.
At the 16 surgical camps, organised so for, more than 6,000 patients were examined and treated, while more than 1,100 patients underwent surgery, with a 100 percent success rate, Dr Ijaz Bashir, Secretary General PCLAPA said.
PCLAPA, with its headquarters at the most modern surgery of Bashir Hospital, Railway Road Gujrat, was established in 1995. The team of internationally reputed British consultant specialist plastic surgeons and top Pakistani doctors, visits Pakistan twice a year, to perform surgeries.
The surgery and treatment is free of cost. The patients are also provided free accommodation at Bashir Hospital. PCLAPA operates as a registered charitable institution, and is funded by private donations.
