India's soyameal exports are likely to fall 12.5 percent to 3.5 million tonnes in the season starting in October as domestic demand is expected to pick up, the head of an industry body said on Monday.
An avian flu outbreak in the western Indian State of Maharashtra and some other regions this year had slashed domestic demand for feedstock and freed more meal for exports.
Rajesh Aggarwal, chairman of Soyabean Processor's Association of India, said exports of about 4 million tonnes in the current season that ends on September 30 were also helped by surplus carryover stock of 600,000-700,000 tonnes.
