Ukraine harvests 30.1 million tonnes grain

Ukrainian farms have harvested 30.1089 million tonnes of grain from 12.176 million hectares or about 83 percent of the total sown area, the Agriculture Ministry said on Monday. The ministry gave no comparative figure.
It said farms had harvested 14.806 million tonnes of wheat with an average yield of 2.70 tonnes. Farms completed the barley harvest, threshing about 12.65 million tonnes with a yield of 2.41 tonne per hectare. The ministry has said Ukraine is likely to harvest up to 38 million tonnes of grain in 2006 compared with 38 million in 2005 and 41.8 million in 2004.
Ukraine plans to harvest a total of 12.209 million hectares sown to early grains, including 5.589 million of wheat and 5.309 million of barley. The ministry said Ukraine had also harvested 356,000 tonnes of sugar beet from about 14,000 hectares. The beet yield was 26.0 tonne per hectare. Ukraine harvested 120,000 tonnes of sunflower seed from 91,000 hectares with a yield of 1.33 tonnes.
