Yousuf to lead Pakistan after Younis refusal

06 Oct, 2006

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named Muhammad Yousuf and Abdur Razzaq as captain and vice-captain, respectively for Champions Trophy Tournament to be played at India. The PCB has made this announcement after refusal of Younis Khan to lead the team. The decision was taken in consultation with the Ad hoc Committee members.
Moreover, the PCB deeply regrets that Younis Khan chose to announce his withdrawal from the captaincy of the Pakistan cricket team for the Champions Trophy.
The PCB spokesman said here on Thursday that Younis Khan did so without prior consultation with the Board. "The PCB has noted that Younis Khan's ill-timed decision to renounce the captaincy was a breach of discipline.
However, Younis Khan has since expressed his regret to the chairman for the unsavory incident. Younis Khan has reconfirmed to the chairman that he does not wish to be considered for the captaincy of the team for the Champions Trophy, and has conveyed to the chairman that he is prepared to continue playing as a team member", he added.
The spokesman said the PCB has taken cognisance of the incident and the matter will be dealt with in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Board. Younis Khan will step down from the captaincy of his own accord, but will continue to play in the team, he added.
