Thar indigenous initiative

07 Oct, 2006

It goes without saying that information brings and breeds knowledge. We have on our hands a paradigm to improve the common lot of our less privileged people. To start with, the target should be the outstretch recesses of Thar Desert.
What about making roads to make inroads into the inhospitable desert. Roads network bring the symptoms of civilisation at the doorsteps of the communities.
Let a water pipe run through the desert as a lifeline with storage tanks, besides sinking of water pumps. Introduction of latest techniques of Drip Irrigation, desert forestation, sprinkling, and solar power with wind generated energy are options to choose from.
A network of primary schools, rudimentary dispensaries and a few centres to promote cottage industry are other possibilities for future opportunities. Let the top brass hold telethons with private sector participation and voluntary participation of local people, instead of standing in the docks, answerable both to the created and to the Creator with unforgiven consequences, both here and in the hereafter.
Some charlatans would certainly scoff at the article as too elementary and ludicrous, considering it as a recipe of cotton candy, forgetting the proverbial saying that let us begin and do it.
