Urdu is our national language but we are distarting it publicly through our media, whether electronic or print. They are responsible for spreading wrong pronunciations and spellings of different words.
Even the use of the words in a sentence is wrong, changing the meaning of the word, and as well the sentence becomes senseless. The use of unnecessary English words in between sentences has become very common. It seems to be a symbol of status in doing so.
In dramas, talks and even in khabarnama Urdu is so poorly mixed with other languages. PTV must maintain its standard in this regard as it is a national channel and must promote use of correct language as our channel is watched by foreign countries in which some viewers must be trying to learn our language.
The print media as well is not doing well as the stories, specially for children, have so many spelling mistakes that may lead a child to confusion as what they learn at school is different from what they read in the print media.
There must be a check on what is printed and what is being said in the media.
Urdu is our national language and as a nation we must be proud of it and try to save it from being mutilated.
