I do not understand what purpose waning crescent moon serves on advertisements in print and electronic media. If the advertisers wish to highlight the advent of the holy month of Ramazan, or later, arrival of Eid-ul-Fitr, then they are wrong.
Mostly the crescent is shown here in waning position (the dying state of the moon). At the time of appearance the crescent looks facing north-west. Its reverse position (facing north-east) comes when the month is ending.
It is ridiculous to depict something in a dying state when promotion is meant.
