The average price of Bangladesh teas fell slightly to 103.73 taka ($1.54) per kg despite good demand at a weekly auction on Tuesday, brokers said.
"Some 1.34 million kg were sold at an average price of 103.73 taka per kg, down 0.15 taka from the last sale. The withdrawal percentage was 2.75," said an official of the National Brokers Limited, the country's largest tea broker.
Different grades sold at between 85 and 126 taka at the auction, which has attracted no foreign buyers for eight sales in a row.
"The prices did not move upward as there was no strong competition among the participants," an auctioneer said. The next weekly auction will be held on October 17 with an expected offering of nearly 1.2 million kg.
