Traffic jam irks citizens

12 Oct, 2006

Effective traffic management resulted in free flow of traffic during the first half of holy month of Ramazan on almost all thoroughfares of Karachi except Golimar up to Business Recorder Road where traffic clog was a daily affair.
The town municipal administration (TMA) has banned the parking of commercial and other vehicles along the road but failure in implementation the ban trouble the ordinary commuters due to obstruction to vehicular traffic.
Most of the parked vehicle found were commercial trucks unloading the sewerage pipes, sanitary ware and tiles besides small Suzuki pickups used for delivery of items purchased from the sanitary shops.
The city government also closed the two entry points when the road was constructed but the area residents specially motorcyclists made way to avoid a long U-turn. This unauthorised removal of pavement not only hinders free flow of traffic but also put the life of motorcyclist at risk.
A similar situation exist on Business Recorder Road from Lasbella intersection to Patel Para where despite removal of encroachments, the parked taxis and auto rickshaws in front of auto repair workshops hinders traffic in peak hours before Iftar.
The citizens have appealed to the City Nazim and Town Nazim to take notice of the traffic jam on road, to ensure enforcement of ban on parking of commercial vehicles and to permanently close unauthorised entry points.
