The causes for delay in the implementation of National Drainage Programme (NDP) came under consideration at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Sindh Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman here on Thursday. The performance of NDP in the backdrop of last meeting held on August 30 was also reviewed.
It was decided to gear up the steps for fulfilment of requirements of financial management. The meeting also took stock of matters related to Sindh Irrigation Development Authority (Sida).
It was decided to ensure the holding of a seminar on NDP in Badin during the current month, while appointment of staff concerned with financial and technical affairs will be completed by early November. The meeting decided to ensure a fortnightly scheme-wise release of report, which will also be presented to Chief Secretary by NDP.
The meeting decided that 75 percent work of 300 schemes costing Rs 566 million will be completed by March 31, 2007 and remaining by June 30, 2007. In this regard a mechanism will be evolved to strengthen working co-ordination between various organisations so that the targets were achieved by March 31 and June 30, 2007. Provincial Co-ordinator NDP, Brigadier Abdul Huq (Retd), Secretary Irrigation and Power, Shuja Ahmed Junejo, Secretary Finance, Malik Israr, Secretary Social Welfare, Abdul Qadir Mangi and other officials attended the meeting.
