A sub-committee of the standing committee on commerce told on Thursday that tobacco industry was contributing Rs 30 billion to the national exchequer. The meeting held in the Parliament House under the convenorship of Syed Naveed Qamar, MNA to discuss purchase of tobacco by the tobacco companies from growers at very low price.
The Pakistan Tobacco Board briefed the committee regarding the fixation of tobacco prices and the process of purchase. The sub-committee directed the PTB to devise an equitable policy to benefit the stakeholders regarding the prices and purchase of tobacco. The sub-committee also viewed the matter of import and export of tobacco.
