13 Oct, 2006

Punjab Law Minister Muhammad Basharat Raja on Thursday said that undemocratic attitude by the so-called champions of democracy negatively impacted democratic process in the country in the past years.
He was responding to the criticism meted out by Leader of the Opposition, Qasim Zia and Deputy Opposition Leader, Rana Sana Ullah Khan during Punjab Assembly session here. Law minister regretted that people who did not believe in supremacy of "institutions" were responsible for most of the ills faced by the nation.
Genuine soul searching exercise on their part would make them realise their own "deeds". He urged the opposition to refrain from making tall claims or undue criticism.
Deputy Speaker Sardar Shaukat Hussain Mazari said that he always respected viewpoints of all the members, especially the leader of the opposition Qasim Zia and granted floor to them for expression on all issues freely.
While expressing his displeasure on the attitude adopted by Deputy Opposition Leader Rana Sana Ullah Khan, he said that the members must also respect the chair and extend their co-operation to him for conducting business of the house with decorum. Earlier, Leader of the Opposition Qasim Zia and Deputy Leader Rana Sana Ullah Khan criticised the government.
