13 Oct, 2006

The European Union's grain management committee has granted import licences for 47,998 tonnes of soft wheat and 4,000 tonnes of feed barley under its tariff rate quotas, official data showed on Thursday.
This was the second week of bidding for the fourth tranche of the main quota for low and medium quality wheat open to all exporters. The imports now left 301,446 tonnes available under the fourth tranche that is open until the end of the year. There were no bids under the US wheat import quota.
The barley imports left 80,257 tonnes available under the annual quota. There were no bids for malting barley. The quota to import duty-free maize is almost exhausted, with only three tonnes available under the yearly quota.
