Clemency in Guru's sentence urged

Pakistan-India Peoples' Forum for Peace and Democracy has urged the President of India to commute the death sentence of Muhammad Afzal Guru, who has been convicted in the 2001 Indian parliament attack case on mere suspicion, reports Kashmir Media Service.
In an open letter to the President of India APJ Abdul Kalam, the forum said that Afzal's hanging would allow the elements against peaceful solution to Kashmir dispute to get a big boost.
The letter said that Afzal's hanging might undermine the spirit with which Pakistan and India are pursuing the talks process aimed at sorting out causes of tension between them, including the core Kashmir dispute.
