Transfer of oil from Orion-I delayed

18 Oct, 2006

The transfer of fuel oil from oil barge Orion-I was delayed for another day as pumping equipment arrived late here. The boat's owner Malik Qutubbdin told APP here on Tuesday that about 68 tonnes of heavy fuel oil is still present in four tanks of Orion-I which run aground 11 days back, some 3.5 nautical miles off Karachi Port Trust.
The transfer of oil is likely to commence on Wednesday morning as another oil barge hired by the owner for transfer of oil has reached the place of the incident. The barge carrying the pumping equipment is due to leave Karachi Port on Tuesday evening.
