The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has plan to set up a permanent committee for implementation of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs). The chamber is conceptualising the modus operandi of this committee so that the chamber has a continuous interaction, co-operation, and dissemination of information with its partners.
The KCCI has been in the forefront in inking MOUs with many organisations in the past. About 56 MOUs have been signed in past three years. There has been no meaningful interaction with the chamber's counterparts and it seems that the MOUs are gathering dust in the closets.
The only MoU worth its value and one that is being implemented is the 'Tripak agreement' between KCCI and Birmingham Chamber, Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber, and the Naples Chamber. This 24-month project is working smoothly and is first ever such project in Pakistan. The Tripak agreement has been effective in building technical competence of senior members, and is centered on capacity building.
