Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said Ulema and mashaikh had a vital role to play to project true image of Islam and promote peace, brotherhood and harmony in the society. He was addressing Ulema and mashaikh at an Iftar dinner hosted by him in their honour here on Tuesday.
The prime minister reminded them that Ulema and mashaikh played a significant role in the history of this region. He expressed his satisfaction that peace and the spirit of tolerance prevailed during Ramazan and hoped that the religious leaders would help steer the society in the right direction.
He said sectarianism and terrorism not only bring bad name to the country but also damage the cause of Islam. He said Islam was a religion of peace, tolerance and brotherhood but unfortunately there were misperception about this great religion.
He urged Ulema and mashaikh to help spread true message of Islam and work for peace at home and abroad. The prime minister said Almighty Allah has bestowed Pakistan with abundant resources and with unity and peace we can take the country to new heights of progress and prosperity. He said Pakistan was created in the name of Islam and we should make individual and collective endeavours to promote the cause of Islam.
