Duty on salt export to India demanded

Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Shahid Hassan Sheikh has demanded imposition of duty on export of salt and salt products to India, besides banning export of salt bigger than 18 mashes.
In a statement here on Wednesday, he said that India is getting salt from Pakistan at the rate of $18 to $24 per ton and exporting it to the European market after value addition at the rate of $224 to $600. He said that India making huge money on the one hand while on the other due to heavy export, it is not available to the local exporters who are doing value addition.
Shahid Hassan Sheikh further said that there is a huge potential in salt export so the government should announce some package for this sector so that the maximum number of people could get benefit.
